Bangladesh Biotechnology Information Centre
(BDBIC) starts operating since February 2005 now housed at
Biotechnology Department, Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU),
Mymensingh. This centre is one of the 19 nodes of
International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech
Applications (ISAAA)
which is a not-for-profit organization delivers the benefits of
new agricultural biotechnologies to the poor in developing
countries. It aims to share these powerful technologies to those
who stand to benefit from them and at the same time establish an
enabling environment for their safe use.
Global Status
of Commercialized Biotech/GM Crops: 2007 is the latest of its
series treated as the only unique reference book worldwide. BDBIC
is also closely working with Bangladesh Association for
Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering (BABGE).

Crops: 2007
ISAAA Briefs 37-2007
After a dozen years of
commercialization, biotech crops are still gaining ground with
another year of double-digit growth and new countries joining
the list of supporters, according to the latest report by the
International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech
Applications (ISAAA). In 2007, biotech crop area grew 12 percent
or 12.3 million hectares to reach 114.3 million hectares, the
second highest area increase in the past five years.
